Pear-shaped?

Top tips on tackling those thunder-thighs we all hate...

Although we are told we can't spot train our troublesome areas, there are in fact some things we can do. Our hormones are largely responsible for where we deposit fat and for those of you who are pear-shaped the culprit is... high levels of Oestrogen.

So what can be done?

  • Eat lots of cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, sprouts etc. They contain a compound that encourages the metabolism of oestrogen helping to lower levels.

  • Avoid tap water as it is full of chemicals and is highly oestrogenic.

  • Do not leave plastic water bottles in the sun as these are made from xenoestrogens, which will seep into the water when the plastic is heated.

  • Try to eat only organic, free range or naturally fed meats as poor quality meat has high levels of oestrogen.

  • Avoid Soya - despite being low fat, it is heavily processed and contains high levels of man-made oestrogens.

  • Cut out Sugar and Yeast - unfortunately women who have high levels of oestrogen often crave sugary sweets but these will only further boost those oestrogen levels.

  • Cut out Caffeine, Refined Sugars, Alcohol and Processed Food!! I know, I'm such a spoil-sport but all are associated with elevating oestrogen levels.
